Alternate Title: (sung to the Meatloaf tune of “I will do anything for LOVE”)
We will do anything for Lunch, but we won’t eat KALE.
Some people can’t handle being in the spotlight. But there are certain tricks. Prepare. Be focused. Move thoughtfully, and say things that will be meaningful.
OR you can wing it and act the way you usually do…and maybe you’ll entertain the production staff. Embarrass yourself. Laugh loudly and fully. And maybe you’ll dig deep and say something that comes from deep within…something that will touch someone. Patty and the Sixtahs took this approach yesterday when we made our way to a film studio in Tampa, Florida to film for the Moffitt Cancer Center’s Courage Campaign (#becourageous).
We met at 8:45am at Patty’s house. Jane’s illustrious apparel committee had decreed it “wear purple” day and yes, even Julie was finally able to pull together an outfit after furious texts and some complaining, let’s face it. Trudi would have handled this much better…
We had a date with destiny. Patty had been asked to participate in a video interview…and we do question whether the rest of us were actually asked to join or if she just really wanted to “do lunch” after…but somehow we also got the call…thanks Patty! What fun we had!
After our requisite “On the Road Again” rendition we touched on other songs…and yes even a Jeffrey Osborne song was sung..off key but with gusto! But we kept on coming back to Meatloaf songs yesterday. Again, we do like lunch, so we were probably just hungry… Impressively, Julie and Janey dieted the ENTIRE way to Tampa.
You will note that Trudi and Patti were missing from the pic above. They did indeed leave the herd yesterday…but both for good reasons. Trudi had to be at work. And Patti was needed by family. Both were VERY missed and, in fact, our Meatloaf song choices may have been related to this issue:
Insert Trudi Above. Insert Patti Above.
We took pix wishing they were in them..
“Now don’t be sad….because two out of three ain’t bad..
and baby we can talk all night, but that ain’t getting us no where..”
And so just four of us pulled up to the studio with Ellen and Melissa, of course (the big flat heads)…and with items from our trip: some of our matching t-shirts; our black Blues Brothers hats from Joplin, Illinois; our 66 necklaces; and our team photo taken at the Santa Monica Route 66 End of the Trail Sign.
It’s a great day when you show up at “Hair and Make Up,” let’s face it…
The team of Katie, Jennifer and Kaitlin from Moffitt are FABULOUS. We shared laughs and baby pix. The passion these gals have for their support of the Moffitt mission is palpable. You may remember Katie from our Route 66 Trip arrival at the Tampa Airport. Katie was technically our FIRST encounter with kindness on the trip (after we left our sweet hometown and it’s many charms)…she brought us Moffitt t-shirts at the Southwest Ticket Counter! And she was with us when a total stranger went up the UP escalator and yelled, “Hope you get to meet Ellen!” from above us! But enough about that…we’re getting our make up done by OUR STYLIST Nikki in this pic! Nikki has actually offered to be our stylist on future trips (trips that are in the planning stages, by the way!) but don’t tell our husbands…we haven’t told them we need STYLISTS…..yet. And possibly they don’t know about the trips…hmmm.
Patty was pre-interviewed first (below) and then brought into the studio
The studio: A bar stool. A lot of light stands to trip over… and a lot of people dressed in all black (note to self: consider going into video production…black is very slimming. (And they have candy jars filled with chocolate in the Hair and Make up Trailer!)
We were asked not to share the interview portion of our day on social media so that the interview and video will have more impact…and we hope it will. It’s so easy to talk passionately about the hope that a place like Moffitt provides. It’s so easy to talk about the inspiration provided to the world by people like Patty…who SHARE of themselves at a time when they might think only OF themselves. And it’s so easy to say embarrassing things in front of a camera…we did all of those things.
Here Janey and Patty are getting ready for their close up…
Our visit ended with quality time with Rob who does social media work for Moffitt. He’s pretty awesome too. Check out the Courage Campaign and the Moffitt website…and hopefully some pix and video of Patty and her support staff, The Sixty Sixtahs, coming soon…
FINALLY LUNCHTIME.
Blog note: Since our return from Route 66 the Trail Magic has continued to cure…Patty has had three consecutive cancer marker tests in the NORMAL range and this past month has had significant shrinkage of her pancreatic neck tumor. Oh YES!
And please stay tuned for some more Sixty Sixtah Shenanigans…we have a few things on our calendar coming up…and we LOVE having you along. You’re an important part of this…remember that! Feel free to contact Ellen Degeneres now that she is filming her show again…(after a summer hiatus that unfortunately coincided with our trip on the Route). Please also contact Melissa McCarthy (prior to the frenzy that is coming for the Gilmore Girls reunion!) We’re still VERY interested in having them meet Patty! Very.

Some people are courageous every day…
Okay…here’s a middleschool/high school flash back for ya…
Stop right there
I gotta know right now
Before we go any further
Do you love me?
Will you love me forever?
Do you need me?
Will you never leave me?
Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life?
Will you take me away and will you make me your wife?
